Vijay Set to Lead Tamil Nadu’s First Coalition Government as TVK Secures Majority Support
Superstar Vijay is set to become the head of Tamil Nadu’s first coalition government after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured majority support from smaller parties, including VCK, CPI, CPI-M, and Congress. Cabinet-sharing arrangements have been finalized, marking a historic shift in the state’s political landscape.
As part of the power-sharing formula, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi is expected to receive one ministerial berth, while two cabinet positions have been reserved for the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Sources said the coalition framework was finalized following discussions at the highest political level.
The three supporting parties, each holding two Members of the Legislative Assembly, formally extended support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Friday. All three parties were previously aligned with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and had been given the freedom to decide their political course by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief MK Stalin based on their respective political interests.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan is likely to join the cabinet personally, further strengthening the coalition structure and signaling the party’s direct participation in governance.
The Congress party is also expected to secure two ministerial berths in the upcoming government, sources had earlier indicated, adding another significant partner to Vijay’s emerging coalition administration.
The formation of the coalition government under Vijay’s leadership represents a historic political moment for Tamil Nadu, a state traditionally dominated by single-party-led governments. The alliance arrangement not only reshapes the state’s political landscape but also signals the rise of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as a central force in regional politics.
